For another consecutive year, Medical University-Sofia (MU-Sofia) has ranked first in performance indicators across all five professional fields in which it offers training: Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Health Care, and Public Health. This is according to data from the new edition of the Ranking System of the Universities in Bulgaria, released today by the Ministry of Education and Science.
Once again, the country’s oldest medical university is among the top three institutions with the highest number of leading rankings by field, alongside Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and the Technical University of Sofia.
The fields of Medicine and Dental Medicine are highlighted in the ranking as leaders in terms of the share of international students in Bulgaria, accounting for 58% and 49% of currently enrolled students, respectively. The number of international students in the country has nearly doubled over the past decade—rising from 4.7% in 2016 to nearly 9% this year.
This year, the field of Pharmacy has joined the group of disciplines with the highest rate of professional application of acquired education (exceeding 90%)—a category that traditionally includes Medicine and Dental Medicine.
The rating system compares the performance of 51 accredited higher education institutions offering programs in Bulgaria across 52 professional fields, based on dozens of indicators that measure various aspects of the educational process, research activities, the learning environment, social conditions, accessibility of education, the prestige and regional significance of the institutions, and the career outcomes of graduates in the labor market.
