Two distinguished scientists of international stature will be awarded the title of “Doctor Honoris Causa” of MU-Sofia at the solemn ceremony on the occasion of the Celebration of Scientific Research and Teaching Activities of MU-Sofia and World Health Day – April 7, 2026.
Prof. Stefano Del Prato is from the University of Pisa, Italy, a scientist, researcher, teacher and clinician with international authority in the field of diabetes mellitus. Long-time President and Honorary President of the Italian Society of Diabetology.
Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of San Antonio, USA; Visiting Professor of Diabetes and Endocrinology at King’s College, University of London, UK; Professor at the Interdisciplinary Research Center “Health Sciences” at the University of Advanced Studies, Pisa, Italy.
The award is presented for his exceptional professional and academic achievements as a world-renowned scientist in the field of diabetology, for his great contributions to the training, support and improvement of the qualifications of endocrinologists from Bulgaria, and for his contribution to the Department of Endocrinology, MU-Sofia.
Prof. Stefano Del Prato will deliver an academic lecture on the topic “European perspective on Type 2 diabetes management” on 8.04.2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Aula of SBALAG “Maichin Dom” at 2 “Zdrave” Str.
The other scientist who will be awarded the “Doctor Honoris Causa” of MU-Sofia is Prof. Marcin Czech. A distinguished scientist whose work covers the fields of medicine, health sciences, economics and finance. He is a full professor of medicine and health sciences, as well as a full professor of economics and finance, reflecting a rare and exemplary interdisciplinary academic career. He is currently the head of the Department of Pharmacoeconomics at the Institute of Mother and Child in Warsaw, Poland.
Prof. Czech participates in teaching our students in the international master’s program “Health Technology Assessment and Pharmacoeconomics” and is a member of the editorial board of the journal Acta Medica Bulgarica.
Prof. Marcin Czech will deliver an academic lecture on the topic “How much does a human life cost? When do you need mine?” on 8.04.2026 at 10:00 a.m., in the First Auditorium of the Faculty of Pharmacy, ul. Dunav № 2.
