The new academic year for foreign students at MU-Sofia was opened today with a solemn ceremony in the Anatomical Auditorium of the Medical-Biological Complex. The first-year students in English-language education in all units of MU-Sofia are 510 in total and come from 26 countries. 325 students are in the specialty “Medicine”, 148 – in “Dental Medicine”, and 37 – in “Pharmacy”.
In front of a packed hall, welcoming speeches to the newly admitted students were delivered by the Rector, Prof. Dr. Boycho Landzhov, MD, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Anzhelika Velkova-Monova, MD, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Assoc. Prof. Vlaiko Vodenicharov, MD. The ceremony was attended by the entire rector’s leadership, deans of faculties and directors of units at the university.
Being the host of the ceremony, Prof. Velkova was the first to greet the new students. She briefly presented them with the opportunities for development in their educational process at the university.
The Rector, Prof. Landzhov, drew the attention of the young people that: “At MU-Sofia, education goes beyond textbooks and lecture halls. Here you will gain knowledge, but also a comprehensive concept for your development. You will get to know the human body, but also the human spirit. You will be challenged and through the challenges you will discover what achievements you are capable of”. He wished them luck in the future they are starting to create for themselves on this day.
Assoc. Prof. Vodenicharov recommended that the freshmen use all opportunities for inclusion in scientific research activities, as well as Erasmus+ mobilities, which will broaden their horizons.
On behalf of the Student Council at MU-Sofia, Zahari Vlaykov congratulated the freshmen. The greetings from students to students were supplemented by Lin Adut from the Medicine major, 6th year. She presented to the new colleagues what it feels like to be a student at the Medical University-Sofia in the different stages of education.
After the event, there was a tour organized by the Student Council to familiarize the new colleagues with the classrooms and halls of the Faculty of Medicine.
Separate ceremonies were held also at the Faculty of Dental Medicine and the Faculty of Pharmacy for the beginning of the academic year.
