Once again, despite the restrictions imposed by the pandemic on the world, Medical University – Sofia has accepted ten medical students from Russia, who will spend a two-week summer internship at our university hospitals and will have the opportunity to observe the work of some of the best medical teams of ours.
Ten students from the First Moscow State Medical University and ten students from Samara State Medical University are taking part in the exchange this year. Our cooperation with Moscow began in 2015, and this is the third internship for both institutions. The exchange with Samara is the first and is due to the fruitful joint work of the teams from the international departments of our and Samara University. Our efforts are aimed at expanding the program and increasing the opportunities for exchange with the two Russian universities not only of students but also of teachers.
The exchange covers two areas – “Medicine” and “Dental Medicine”, and now we welcome the ten medical students, but in October we will accept the ten dental students.
The first day of the internship of the Russian students passed with a demonstration of the work of “Da Vinci” high-tech surgical system for specialized robotic ontological operations in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics of “Mother’s Home” and a Welcome reception at the Rectorate of MU-Sofia. The Vice-Rector for Post-graduate studies Assoc. Prof. Elitsa Deliverska-Alexandrova, MD welcomed the guests and wished them success in their endeavors and positive impressions of the internship program, then the team of IRO briefed them on the history of the university. The students, in turn, shared their first impressions of Bulgaria and talked about the education system in Russia.
After the internship of the Russian students in Bulgaria, ten of our students majoring in Medicine and four students majoring in Dental Medicine will go to practice in Russia. It is good to mention that our Students Council has taken a significant part of the funding of our students to make this exchange possible.
