POSITION ON ENERGY CRISIS IMPACT
ON LIFE SCIENCE RESEARCH

The Alliance for Life Sciences takes note of the impact of the energy crisis on research institutions and of the implications of rising operational costs at the sustainability of life science research,
which during an emergency in energy supply brings up a significant risk of discontinuing current research and spoils the effort and resources spent on that. We strongly call upon national
governments

  • to consider experimental research and life sciences in particular as an energy-demanding activity and include them in schemes of support, and
  • to revisit operational funding for Research Infrastructures in order to reflect on rising costs of applying state-of-art research technologies.
We also encourage all life science research institutions to take active part in the Green Lab initiative and consider all practical steps to control operational costs from an economical and environmental perspective.

On behalf of Alliance for Life Sciences:

Jiří Nantl, Chair of the Board

The Alliance for Life Sciences (Alliance4Life) is a bottom-up initiative of twelve leading life science institutions from eleven EU Member States located in Central and Eastern Europe that aim at closing the divide in European health research and innovation. Members of the alliance are progressive research institutions that stimulate
institutional changes and contribute to national and
EU research policy:
