MU-Sofia Wins Four First Places at the Academic Oscars 2022

At a formal ceremony attended by Vice President Mrs. Iliana Yotova, Minister of Education and Science Mr. Sasho Penov, and ten former education ministers, the Academic Oscars 2022 were presented. For the seventh consecutive year, “24 Hours” newspaper brought together business representatives and university rectors who lead their respective professional fields, according to the new university rankings. For the first time, students and successfully established young professionals who graduated from the awarded universities were invited. Representing the Medical University of Sofia at the ceremony were the 2022 Student of the Year awardee, Lyubomir Gaydarski, and Dr. Ivaylo Nikolov, a pediatrician at “Alexandrovska Hospital” and part of the 24 Hours “Doctors We Trust” list.

The Medical University of Sofia received awards for securing first place in four fields: Medicine, Dentistry, Public Health, and Pharmacy. The award was presented by Nikolay Valkanov, Chairman of the Board of Directors and owner of Minstroy Holding.

“Once again, you have proven that good efforts deserve recognition. I extend my gratitude to my colleagues, students, the university leadership, and the faculty for their commitment and dedication. My task is relatively simple because I am part of a positive tradition. This year, we celebrate 105 years since the establishment of our university. Furthermore, it is worth noting that 10 universities received bonuses for research activities, which will enable us to further grow and contribute to scientific advancements,” said MU-Sofia Rector Academician Latchezar Traykov.

“This ranking system is crucial in two respects. It serves as a guide for young people to help them choose a university. This ranking shows young people that they should consider not only their passions but also how they can successfully integrate into the labor market tomorrow,” said the Vice President in her address to the guests at the ceremony.

“Academician Traykov, I want to congratulate you on your excellent interview with 24 Hours, where you explain how science is done. This ranking is very important because the rating system provides a snapshot of the state of higher education. It is a comprehensive analysis that holds both practical and strategic significance,” added Mrs. Yotova.
