Erasmus+ Teaching Mobility: Visit of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Merita Molla from the University of Medicine, Tirana

As part of the Erasmus+ KA171 project (Contract No. 2022-1-BG01-KA171-HED-000074631), the Medical University – Sofia was honored to welcome Assoc. Prof. Dr. Merita Molla from the University of Medicine – Tirana, Albania, for a teaching visit from April 7 to April 11, 2025.

Dr. Molla, a leading nephrologist and lecturer at Mother Teresa University Hospital in Tirana, visited under the Erasmus+ program to strengthen academic and professional collaboration between the two institutions. Her visit focused on the exchange of experience in medical education, research, and clinical practice—especially in the field of nephrology.

Academic Activities and Lectures

During her visit, Dr. Molla delivered a series of structured lectures to students, residents, PhD candidates, and specialist physicians. Key topics included:

· Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)

· Multidisciplinary approaches to CKD management

· Assessment and management of complications related to CKD

Her sessions sparked active discussions and provided valuable insights into the latest practices in nephrology.

Clinical Engagement and Collaboration

Beyond teaching, Dr. Molla worked closely with the nephrology team at St. Ivan Rilski University Hospital, observing clinical practices and participating in case discussions. These interactions highlighted modern diagnostic techniques and updated treatment strategies, fostering mutual learning and knowledge exchange.

Strategic Meetings and Future Opportunities

The visit concluded with a meeting between Dr. Molla and key representatives from Medical University – Sofia, including Prof. Dr. Ventsislava Pencheva-Genova, Vice-Rector for International Integration and Project Financing, Prof. Antonia Yanakieva Head of the MIPF Department and members of the International Relations Office.

A Certificate for successfully completed lecture courses was awarded, according to the requirements of the Erasmus+ KA 171.
