CREATIVE EVENT BY INGENIUM ON MAKING MARTENITSA BRINGS TOGETHER STUDENTS FROM SOFIA MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

А special Martenitsa-making workshop took place at the Rectorate of Sofia Medical University, organized by the Erasmus team and INGENIUM оn February 5, 2025.

The event was part of the activities of the European university INGENIUM, offering students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Martenitsa tradition and create their own Martenitsa.

The Martenitsa is a deeply rooted Bulgarian tradition celebrated on March 1st. In Bulgaria, the custom of exchanging red and white threads symbolizes health, luck, and the arrival of spring. This year, participants had the chance not only to learn more about this tradition but also to engage in a creative process tied to Bulgarian culture.

Participants were able to create Martenitsa from various materials, including specially provided 3D-printed elements featuring the INGENIUM logo, produced by the Department of Medical Physics and Biophysics. These are part of a unique initiative and will be distributed to partners from the University of Oviedo, Spain, during the upcoming high-level meeting of INGENIUM’s European partners.
