Iranian Ambassador Meets with the Rector of MU-Sofia Prof. Victor Zlatkov

On October 24, 2019, a meeting of the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran – H.E. Sayed Mohammad Javad Rasuli with Prof. Dr. Viktor Zlatkov, Rector of Medical University – Sofia and the Secretary General of the University – Mr. Veselin Petrov was held.

At this meeting, initiated by H.E. Ambassador Rasuli, Rector Prof. Zlatkov introduced the distinguished guest with the structure and the opportunities provided by the university, his place in the world rankings, as well as the successes of international students enrolled in the English language curriculum in the fields of Medicine, Pharmacy and Dental Medicine. At present, nearly 10,000 students are enrolled at MU-Sofia, of which over 3,100 are in English. In this regard, the Rector informed Ambassador Rasulli that the number of Iranian students has increased fourfold in the last year – from 7 to 29.

H.E. Ambassador Rasulli noted that Bulgaria is a beautiful country that in many respects reminds his country. He stressed that the ties between the two peoples are deep and fruitful. The common roots, cultural traditions and the cult of the rose that found its second homeland in our country were not missed.

Ambassador Rasulli briefed on his plans during his upcoming term in Bulgaria. He stated that one of the goals of his mission is to promote and support the creation of conditions for research between similar institutes on both sides, as well as the further development of the interconnections in education and medicine.

Prof. Zlatkov presented to the Ambassador the opportunities for mutual exchange of students and professors, setting an example with the EU Erasmus + Program, through which MU-Sofia has partners from over 106 countries around the world.

The meeting was a constructive spirit and understanding and the ambassador invited the rector to take part in the preparatory working meeting of the rectors of different Bulgarian universities with similar educational institutions in Iran.
