MEDICAL UNIVERSITY – SOFIA HOSTED GUEST LECTURERS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF HIROSHIMA, JAPAN

From February 17-21, 2020, lecturers from the University of Hiroshima, Japan, visited MU-Sofia under the Erasmus+ programme academic exchange with partner countries.

Тhe institutionalized partnership between Medical University – Sofia and Hiroshima University, Japan has started since 2012. In a friendly atmosphere, HE Watanabe Masato, Ambassador of Japan to Bulgaria, gave an official dinner to the Rector of MU-Sofia Prof. Dr. Victor Zlatkov, MD and the Head of International Integration and Project Funding Department Prof. Dr. Radoslav Gurchev, MD, DSc.

The two universities have enjoyed successful collaboration in research projects in the fields of medicine, dental medicine and health sciences, social behavior and lifestyle for over 37 years so far. The guest speakers gave interesting lectures to the audience of MU-Sofia, which were attended by students and professors from the Faculty of Medicine. Prof. Dr. Norio Sakai, MD, PhD, from the Department of Biomedicine and Health Sciences presented a lecture on regulation of serotonin transporter function via its membrane trafficking. Prof. Dr. Masao Yoshizumi, MD, MD, Department of Cardiovascular Physiology and Medicine, presented the topic of the influence of certain nutrients in terms of vascular biology and biomedical engineering for the treatment of arteriosclerosis and other diseases of the bone system. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hiroki Kokubo, also from the Department of Cardiovascular Physiology and Medicine, discussed the cardiac development of the embryo in view of human anatomy.

The topics of the three lecturers provoked the students to ask questions in the open discussion panel after the lectures and the meeting proceeded as an interesting scientific debate.
