At a special “Academic Oscars 2021” ceremony, the best HEIs in our country were awarded. MU-Sofia is the leader in the most areas for the specialized field universities and ranked in the second for Multidisciplinary higher educational institutions.
The Rector, Acad. Prof. Lachezar Traykov, MD, D.Sc. received the award for the university from Mrs. Mariyana Hamanova, executive director of Cleantech Bulgaria.
“I thank the organizers for this award. Thank you very much to all the students, teachers and rectors before me. I would like to emphasize that our key priority is support for our young scientists. This year we started funding their refereed and indexed scientific publications in order to facilitate their career development and motivate them to stay here. We have developed a system for indexing the salary of our professors, which takes into account their scientific work. We recently increased both their salaries and student scholarships by 10%, hoping that this speaks to the importance of young people to MU-Sofia,” he shared.
The rector especially thanked the rectors of the other Medical Universities in the country, because “with them during the year we reached a consensus on issues important for our development, especially on the topics affecting the autonomy of the universities and we established an association in which we can work together in this direction “.
The awards are based on the Bulgarian University Ranking System – the annual ranking conducted by the Ministry of Education and Science and an external consortium for the 11th time. MU-Sofia has been in first place in its professional fields for over a decade.
This year, the university is a leader in the following areas:
• Medicine
• Dental medicine
• Pharmacy
• Public health
In the fifth direction – Health care – the university takes the prestigious second place.
The ceremony organized by the Newspaper “24 hours” promotes the ranking system as the best quality guide for young people and their parents as to which universities and which professional fields give young people the best chances for realization.
