Scientific Member Dr. Lachezar Traykov was elected yesterday by the Assembly of Academicians at Bulgarian Academy of Sciences to be the newest member in the field of medical sciences. His scientific contributions are related to the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of cerebrovascular disease, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and more. He has 159 scientific papers, 2213 citations with h-factor 21.
Since 2008 he has been the Head of the Department of Neurology at the Medical University – Sofia, heading the Specialized Department for the diagnosis and treatment of degenerative and vascular dementias at the University Hospital “Alexandrovska”, and Chairman of the Bulgarian Dementia Society. In 2017, he was awarded the Medic of the Year award.
Academician Traykov is the winner of the Panacea Gold Award, an award for special contributions in the teaching, research and professional activity in the professional field of Medicine at MU-Sofia, as well as the University Honorary Insignia. He is also a two-time winner of the first prize of the France Alzheimer Foundation for renowned researchers.
