The greatest wealth of an organization is the people. At the end of the year, we all make balance and look forward to what comes next. We analyze mistakes and summarize successes. And the successes and achievements of the academic community at Medical University – Sofia were not small.
The following awards for research and teaching activity of Medical University-Sofia for 2017, were handed: for overall contribution to the development of Bulgarian medicine the honorary mark “AESCULAPIUS” of the Medical University-Sofia was awarded the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine – Corresponding Member Prof. Dr. Ivan Mitov. The PANACEA Award for Contribution to the Medical-Clinical Area of Prof. Dr. Sabina Zaharieva, to the Medical-Biological Area of Prof. Boris Tenchov, and to the Medical-Social Area of Prof. Dr. Tihomira Zlatanova. For overall contribution to the development of the Medical University – Sofia, the honorary sign “SIGNUM LAUDIS” on a ribbon was presented to Prof. Dr. Borislav Vladimirov – Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Krasimira Yaneva-Ribagina – Faculty of Dental Medicine; Prof. Ilko Getov – Faculty of Pharmacy; and Assoc. Prof. Tsvetanka Dobreva Zhivkova, also from the Faculty of Pharmacy. Professor Veneta Bozhinova-Chamova – Faculty of Medicine was awarded the plaque with the award “SIGNUM LAUDIS”.
Prof. Dr. Zdravko Kamenov (Head of the Department of Internal Medicine of the Ministry of Health) became the winner of the Ministry of Education and Science – Pythagoras as a distinguished scientist in the field of health and medical sciences. Head of the Department of Neurology, and Prof. Dr. Luchezar Traikov was awarded the title of “Medic of the Year” by Forum Medicus.
Prof. Dr. Vasil Hadzhidekov (Head of the Department of Imaging Diagnostics at the Medical University – Sofia) received the honorary distinction for overall activity during the 16th Balkan Congress of Radiology.
We are honored and proud that 53 of all nominated specialists of Medical University – Sofia have been appointed national consultants for the 89 specialties selected.
In 2018, a record number (403 doctors) graduated from graduation year of 2017 from the Faculty of Medicine. Three of them are complete honorees and the Rector awarded them with the Golden Hippocrates Award.
The winner of the national prize “Student of the Year” for 2018 of the National Representation of Student Councils in Bulgaria in the category “Health” is Georgi Kotov, student of the 6th year, specialty “Medicine” of MU-Sofia.
The Eureka Foundation honors, scholarships for success in both national and international competitions are distributed to universities and schools as follows: Sofia University (22 awards), MU-Sofia (8 awards), Technical University-Sofia (5 awards), Sofia Mathematics School (4 awards), Military Academy-Varna (2 awards), 1st Mathematics School Bourgas (2 awards) and 12 other educational structures with 1 prize each. Our students have received awards and scholarships not only on behalf of the Foundation, but also from the management of MU-Sofia, following a decision by the Academic Council. Among the awarded are: Georgi Kotov, Diana Pramatarova, Dimitar Karazapryanov, Tsvetoslav Georgiev, Petar Karazapryanov, Christian Georgiev, Krustyo Draginov and Lazar Mitrov.
