BBMRI-ERIC marks 10 years of its establishment

The European health and life science research infrastructure for biobanking and biomolecular resources, BBMRI-ERIC, marked on Feb 29th its 10th anniversary of successful operation with a workshop at the Permanent Representation of Austria to the European Union, Brussels.

Bulgaria has been a Member State of BBMRI-ERIC since 2018. Reflecting on the benefit and impact of being a key member of the research infrastructure, Prof. Radka Kaneva, national coordinator of BBMRI.bg said:

“The participation of Bulgaria in BBMRI-ERIC is crucial for the establishment of the National Node, the spread among Bulgarian scientists of the culture of biobanking and sharing valuable sets of biological samples and data to enable biomedical research. It fostered the development of high quality national collections and biobanks, increased their visibility, and allowed the inclusion of Bulgaria in key international projects and initiatives, such as CanSERV, The European Rare Diseases Research Alliance (ERDERA), Genomic data infrastructure (GDI) and Genome of Europe.”

BBMRI-ERIC is a European Research Infrastructure established in 2013 under EU legislation.
